About the Course

This workshop is for those interested in expanding their creative thought process before and during image taking by understanding why certain images look better than others.

We will refine concepts used to select the important  images from a plethora of images taken during a trip or photo shoot, I know you have taken hundreds of images that you don't know what to do with. I know I have, many times.

Over the years I have realized most of what I do to select the so called correct image from a shoot is a mixture of second nature intuition guided by experience, and science and finished off with good ol subjective taste, or at lest I think it is.

With that in mind I believe more time needs to be spent understanding how to choose one image out of 10, 20 or even 100 similars.

We will be looking into the fundamentals, which shape a great image.

Yes, I will demonstrate all my methods used in Photoshop to make those critical images look even better, including quick masking, curves adjustment layers, tonal masking, primary and secondary color adjustments and ways to expand the tonal range of digital image files through ACR. I will also be demonstrating how all these Photoshop techniques relate to making fine art prints.

Each participant will be expected to take many images throughout the week. We will spend lab time critiquing those images and reviewing Adobes software designed for viewing multiple images. All this time spent critiquing images is the very best way to begin introducing such theories and methods in your seeing while taking images.

By the end of the week, who knows you might just be able to save some time and hard drive space by creatively editing in camera, filled with the vision of what the intended image will become.
