About the Course

The holy grail of digital imaging is color accuracy. This course will cover everything you need to know to get accurate results from edit to output, whether you’re posting images online or doing fine art prints. Jon Canfield will provide the information you need to take your digital photography to the next level. You’ll learn the importance of color management and how to optimize your system for the best possible results.

.

What You Will Learn

You’ll start out learning about how color is reproduced on screen and print. We’ll discuss monitor profiling, color spaces and how they relate to your monitor and printer.

The first step in a color managed workflow is to have an accurate calibration for your monitor. We’ll look at different tools that are available for free or as additional products and how to get the best possible color out of your monitor.

We’ll cover printer settings in detail, showing you how to use paper profiles, printer options, and how different rendering intents affect your output. For web output, you’ll learn how to optimize for screen display and getting the most from the sRGB color space.

Next, you’ll see how to use soft proofing to optimize your image prior to printing to reproduce your vision on paper. Finally, custom printer profiles, RIPs (Raster Image Processors), and CMYK output.

Much of the class will be devoted to actually working with images to give you a clear understanding of the concepts being taught. We’ll start with supplied images to help you understand the adjustments and settings, and then we’ll move on to working with your own images, with the instructor spending time answering questions and offering advice as you work on your files.

The course includes a detailed syllabus and test files.
